Figma history (Beta)

"What has changed since the last time we saw the design?"

It's a quite common question among developers, project or product managers, and many many stakeholders. And - honestly - from a designer perspective there's no easy or quick way to provide an accurate response.

Figma history is a tool to easily see and compare different versions of a Figma file, so that devs, PMs and stakeholders don't need to ask that question ever again, and designers can focus on design.

Getting started

Get to https://www.figmahistory.com , paste the link of the Figma file you want to review, and click Compare. This simple 😊.

Figma history has a 7-day fully-functional free trial, so feel free to jump in and start playing with it.

How does it work?

  • Pick the two versions you'd like to compare on the selectors above.
  • Choose your preferred view: Overlay, or Side-by-side
  • Choose which elements you want to show changes for (sections, frames, components, texts, shapes, ...)

Why is this Beta?

We're currently on open Beta, trying to understand better the different flows Figma history can help with, and stress testing a bit the platform.

Figma history is fully functional. Some glitches are still expected, though 😉.

If you hit any glitch, or want to tell us more about how you use Figma history, we'd love to hear from you! Please feel free to reach out at hello@oodesign.me.

How can Figma history access my files?

Well, it can't. To be able to present the comparison, Figma history will ask for permission to access your files (the same way that Zeroheight, MS Teams, Slack, Principle - to name some - do).

Are my files safe?

We use the Figma REST API to access your files and display what has changed between versions. We can only read files, meaning we can't edit anything in them. If you feel curious, you may find more detail here about Figma authentication scopes.

Access to designs is only used for comparison rendering. We do not (and will never) store, analyze, or share your designs. We do not track analytics.

Your designs are (and will continue to be) just for your eyes.

Can I revoke access?

Absolutely. To do so please go to your Profile -> Settings, and then scroll down to a section called "Connected apps". In that section you can revoke access for any connected app.

What's the pricing?

Figma history is licensed per user or per team. Every different Figma account is considered a different user.

  • Single license: for a single Figma account
  • Team license: as many Figma accounts as you need (please see EULA).

It's a yearly subscription, and all updates are included with it.
